Karkala: The Anti-Naxal Force (ANF) intensified combing operations in Karkala and Hebri regions following reports of Naxal activity in the area.

During an operation, Naxal leader Vikram Gowda was killed in an encounter with ANF personnel.

The operation was carried out near Kabbinahalli and Peetebailu in the Hebri area after intelligence indicated the movement of four Naxals in the forest.

A confrontation ensued between ANF forces and the Naxals, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Vikram Gowda sustained bullet injuries and succumbed to them, while the remaining three Naxals managed to escape into the forest.

Combing operations have been intensified across the Western Ghats, including in Karkala and Hebri, to locate the remaining suspects. Senior police officials have visited the site to oversee further actions.
