Nearly 2 kg of smuggled gold confiscated at MIA between Feb 16-28

Mangaluru: As much as 1.913 kg of gold being smuggled was confiscated by the Customs officials at the Mangaluru international airport between February 16 to 28, officials said.
The gold, which was confiscated from one woman and six men passengers, had a value of Rs 1.08 crore.
The passengers arriving from foreign countries had attempted to avoid detection by customs officials by hiding the gold in their clothing and body cavities.
The officials revealed that the gold was being smuggled through different methods, including concealment in paste form within a double-layered shirt, inside the rectum, and by pasting it under the feet.
One female passenger had concealed the gold in paste form inside the waistband of her trousers, while one male passenger had gold concealed in his oral cavity.
However, the officials were able to detect and confiscate the smuggled gold. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
