Nejar family murder case: Accused sent to 14-day police custody

A local court here sent the accused involved in the Nejar family murder case to 14-day police custody on Wednesday.
The accused in the Nejar family murder case, Praveen Chougale was arrested from Kuduchi in Raibagh taluk of Belagavi district on Tuesday in a joint operation by Udupi and Belagavi police.
Earlier in the day the Udupi district Superintendent of Police K Arun informed that the prime suspect in the murder of four members of a family in Udupi has confessed to the crime during the questioning.
“It was a pre-planned murder. The suspect in his confession statement said that his intention was to kill one of the victims, Aynaz but the others were killed as they tried to intervene. We are investigating the veracity of his claims,” the SP added.
While briefing reporters the SP said that the case is being investigated from several angles and a clear picture will be available only after questioning all the suspects.
”Praveen Chougale, the suspect, was taken into custody on the basis of technical evidence and intelligence reports. We are interrogating several suspects,” he had stated.
Security has been beefed up across the district as a precaution. Additional policemen are deployed near the offices of the SP, DySP and surrounding areas.
