A 16-year-old girl of Nepalese origin was found dead in a rented house in Thokkottu, Chembugudde, on Saturday, June 8. She had hanged herself.

The girl was the daughter of a Nepalese man who operates a fast food canteen near Vrindavan Hotel in Thokkottu. The family lived in a rented house owned by Rita D’Souza in Chembugudde. The girl, the second daughter, was studying in the eighth grade in Nepal but had been brought to Mangaluru by her father to continue her education. However, she preferred to study in Nepal, leading to frequent arguments with her parents.

On the afternoon of the incident, the girl’s mother had gone to school to bring her younger children home. Upon her return, she found her daughter hanging in the bathroom from an iron rod using her shawl.

The Ullal police conducted a post-mortem and handed over the body to the family.
