These young minds will then spread the message about early recognition of stroke and the state of art stroke interventions available in Kasturba Hospital. The World Stroke Organization slogan for this year is, #UpAgainAfterStroke.

With about 80 million people world over having suffered stroke and over 50million survivors living with some form of permanent disability, the emphasis always is on timely treatment, within three to eight hours after the onset of symptoms.

Current treatment modalities are strictly time locked and both thrombolytic therapy and mechanical thrombectomy (removal of blood clot) are to be instituted within that time frame. While for many, life after stroke won’t be quite the same, with the right care and support living a meaningful life is still possible. The most important point is to recognize the stroke when it happens and shift the patient to appropriate medical center.

At the Kasturba Hospital here all facilities for acute and chronic stroke care exists. Also, facilities for neurorehabilitation like state of art physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy are available. A very efficient team of neurologists, neurosurgeons and rehabilitation specialists extend timely care for stroke survivors in Kasturba Hospital,” said Prof (Brig) Sankar Prasad Gorthi of the Neurosciences Department.
