The Lakshadweep islands might see improved air connectivity soon. Reportedly, plans for a dual-use airfield in Minicoy Island to accommodate commercial and military planes, including Airbus A320/Boeing 737, are afoot.

Additionally, efforts are underway to extend Agatti’s airstrip, allowing larger planes like the A320 to operate there.

Major hotel chains, like Taj, are planning to establish new hotels in Suheli and Kadmat islands by 2026, indicating growing interest in tourism. The administration aims to boost cruise tourism in the region.

To ease travel, the e-permit process for visiting Lakshadweep has moved online, reducing the processing time to a day or two. However, limited air connectivity is evident, with flights to Lakshadweep booked till March due to high demand.

According to reports, the government is also considering expanding the Agatti airport runway and constructing a new airport in Minicoy. Environmental concerns have stalled the Agatti runway extension plan, impacting capacity and raising fares due to limited flights.

Additionally, there are plans to enhance resorts and construct tent cities in various islands.
