Mangaluru: The meteorological department at Bengaluru has predicted heavy rainfall in the coast till July 21st. rainfall amounting to about 115 mm maybe expected every day.
Except for a little drizzling in the morning and some rain in the afternoon, there was sunshine on Tuesday. But since the evening, the winds picked up along the coast along with heavy rains. The downpour inundated large tracts of farm lands at many locations including Pavoor and Harekala in Konaje here.
The field remian continuously flooded since the farmers are unable to remove the mud accumulated on the sides of their fields to allow water to flow out of their land and thus most of the farmers are losing hope of raising a good crop. Officials and people’s representative have failed to do anything about the situation, say farmer leaders.
Less rainfall
In the period of 24 hours till Tuesday morning, Beltangady received the highest rainfall of 72.9 mm.while Mangaluru city got only 21.5 mm rainfall. However the total rainfall in July this year is less in comparison to last year.
Sea erosion
On Tuesday, the sea erosion at Ullal worsened, compelling Ullal city municipality to give warning of imminent danger to the families that have continued to live at the in houses close to the raging sea.
Rivers above normal level
Kumaradhara and Nethravati Rivers have been flowing much above their normal levels and since the last 8 days, the bathing bay at Subrahmanya remains inundated and the old Kumaradhara Bridge still remains submerged.
