Mangaluru: Vigilance and surveillance have been intensified at the Dakshina Kannada border areas adjoining Kerala in the wake of the Nipah outbreak in the neighbouring state. Vehicles entering the state are being thoroughly checked at 11 check posts at border crossings.
Health department staff have been deployed to the 11 checkpoints in Mangaluru, Sullia, Puttur and Bantwal taluks. The persons who have visited the Nipah-affected areas are being screened for flu, and fever symptoms.
According to Health Department officials so far there have been no cases of fever detected.
Apart from surveillance measures, isolation wards have been kept ready at the Wenlock District Hospital in Mangaluru, Taulk Hospitals, Community Health Centers, and Private hospitals for treating the suspected cases of Nipah.
National Highway 66 being the major artery connecting the 2 states, surveillance has been tightened at Talapady checkpost. A random fever survey is being conducted at the border checkpost. On Saturday, passengers on 70 vehicles coming from Kozhikode and Vatakara were checked. They were allowed to continue their journey after collecting contact information, officials said.
