NMPT celebrates 72nd Republic Day

Mangaluru: The New Mangalore Port Trust celebrated the 72nd Republic day in a restrained manner amid the pandemic avoiding large congregation in the ceremony.

COVID-19 protocol was adhered diligently by following preventive measures like social distancing, wearing of masks that are absolutely imperative to make sure that the celebrations are carried out safely. A vibrant parade by the CISF unit Panambur & NMPT Fire Service gave momentum to the proceedings.

Dr AV Ramana, Chairman NMPT presided over the celebration and reviewed the Parade contingent.

In his address, he urged the Port fraternity to rekindle the values instilled in the society by the founding fathers of the nation and thus contribute in every manner to the growth of India by inculcating the Make in India initiative of GoI.

He spoke on the growth of Port, how NMPT is implementing various initiatives to enhance the ease of doing business, also about the umbrella of development schemes such as the construction of 23.6 kilometres tunnel on Mangaluru – Bengaluru highway, four laning of NH 66 from Kerala to Goa Border, six laning of Kulur Bridge, etc. launched by the GoI which in specific will help the Port in improving its productivity together with efficiency parameters & also on urging various Government authorities in upgrading rail & road connectivity to the Port.

The Chairman also thanked the prime minister for this initiative in particular. To match with these developments the Port has undertaken various projects like the modernization of US Mallya Gate, KK Gate, SJ Gate, a new berth to be constructed, truck terminals, Kulai Fishing Harbour & a dedicated entrance gate for handling Cruise passengers.

The Port has the objective of taking its throughput to 50 MMT by 2025 & 67 MMT by 2030.

The Chairman also highlighted the various achievements of the Port and its contribution as a catalyst in the economic growth of this region in particular.

Also on this occasion the Chairman, NMPT inaugurated first of its kind, “Pradhan Mantri Jan Aushadi Kendra” at Market Complex in NMPT Colony, Panambur and expressed his contentment that this will make available high-quality medicines at affordable prices to deprived and disadvantaged people.
