Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) is expecting to receive a ‘Mobile X-ray Container Scanner’ by the first week of June as a security measure.

Instead of separately scanning every single leaving and entering ships at NMPT, this new equipment scans the entire vehicle itself. It has the capacity to inspect all the goods within seconds of containers that are smaller than 40m in height. This facility is already available at other ports in the country and will now be introduced at NMPT.

The new scanner will be brought to Mangaluru in accordance with the directions of the Shipping Ministry of the union. The machine which has been manufactured in France will be managed by the customs office at NMPT, informed sources from the port.
