No access road in Kargal town area: Son carries ailing mother for 1km on makeshift stretcher

Shivamogga: Access road that leads almost to the doorstep is perhaps the one thing that distinguishes a rural area from a city. But in Shivamogga’s Kargal, a man had to carry his ailing mother on a makeshift stretcher right in the city area due to the lack of road in the locality where he lived.

Yes, you heard it right. The incident happened at the Church Mount Area of Kargal city of Joga taluk of Shivamogga.

Adham’s mother Acchamma has been paralyzed and had to be taken to a hospital for treatment. As there was no road, an ambulance or any other vehicle couldn’t reach their home. The main road is about a kilometer away from their residence in Church Mount.

As time of the essence, Adham constructed a makeshift stretcher – a saree tied to a pole, and carried his mother on it to reach the main road on foot.

It is a shame that such a pitiable incident happened in Shivamogga – a district that boasts of having produced 4 chief ministers of the state.

20 homes sans access road

Although it falls under the town, the local administration has not yet provided an access road to the Church Mount area of Kargal. there are about 20 houses in the hilly locality.  There is no road to the 20 houses in this hilly area. If anyone is in need of medical attention they need to be carried on a makeshift sling to walk the narrow path to reach the main road.

Locals alleged that several petitions for an all-weather road for the locality were raised, but so far nothing has materialized.
