No arrest yet in Gauri Lankesh’s murder: SIT

Bengaluru: The deputy chief of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) clarified on Friday that no one has been arrested or detained in murder case of journalist-activist Gauri Lankesh on September 5, 2017.

The clarification of two men being detained came to light when MN Anuchet spoke in response to a local TV channel. The statement by the local channel said that the accused including the shooter and the man who accompanied him were detained. It is said that the shooter was from a different state and the man who sheltered the shooter was from Malnad region of Karnataka.

Gauri Lankesh was shot dead in front of her house in Rajarajeshwari Nagar by a gunman who came in a bike. The SIT was given in charge of the investigation of the murder.

Responding to the statements, Anuchet said in a release that it was baseless news and no one has been detained or arrested in connection with the case.

Sources in the home department including home minister Ramalinga Reddy too denied arrests or detention.
