  • Continuous electricity supply for customers-industries

Mangaluru: Unlimited load shedding is normal during summers. But this time, there is no fear of power cuts within Mangaluru Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) limits.

Due to the good rainy season in Karavali and ghat areas, there is enough water stored in the reservoirs because of which enough electricity is being produced. Mescom requires 950 MW of electricity per day and that amount is being supplied by the Karnataka Electricity Transmission Center. Therefore, Mescom does not expect any power cuts in DK, Udupi, Shimoga and Chikmagalur districts until May.

There is no lack of water at Lingamakki, Soopa and Mani water reservoirs. Electricity is also available from solar, air, thermal and nuclear resources. Therefore it will be possible for a continuous supply of electricity, inform officials.

There is approval for 216 million units of electricity per day from the state’s network to the 6 ESCOMS in the state and presently 218.89 million units of electricity is being used.

“There is no problem for power supply to industrial areas. Continuous electricity is being supplied to industries,” said Abdul Hameed, President of Kanara Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI)

Load shedding: CM break

It is worth noting that the CM H D Kumaraswamy had recently directed all escoms to not to do load shedding in the state since there is enough water in the dams.

Mescom: 23 lakh customers

There are 23 lakh customers within the Mescom limits. The maximum household use by all of them is 15.3 lakh. For LT there are 1.9 lakh, LT3 – 2.i lakh. IP (water pump set) 3.2 lakh, LT 5 (industrial) – 31,000, government institutions (water supply and others) 18,000, stree lights 21,000, high tension2,000 and temporary connections are 15,000.
