Mangaluru: The state government has no shortage of funds for ration distribution, clarified Food and Civil Supplies Minister K.H. Muniyappa.

Speaking to the media at Mangaluru International Airport, he addressed concerns over BPL card eligibility and the recent revision process.

Responding to allegations by MLA Sunil Kumar regarding the cancellation of 11 lakh ration cards in the state, the minister stated, “Karnataka has a population of 6.5 crore, and we have distributed 4.5 crore ration cards. Due to suspicions of ineligibility, we initiated the revision process to ensure accuracy.”

Muniyappa assured that during this revision, eligible citizens would receive BPL cards. He added, “Even those shifted to the APL category will retain their cards. We have an allocation of Rs 8,000 crore, and monthly expenses for ration distribution do not exceed Rs 650 crore. There is no issue in extending benefits to eligible citizens.”
