Bengaluru: Issuing a clarification regarding the issue of the power tariff hike for consumers, Minister of Energy Department V Sunil Kumar said that the state government has not given any instructions for increasing the power tariff for the consumers.
The KERC revised only the fuel cost adjustment charges, which will affect the power generation units and not the consumers, he said.
Further, the minister said that a false message has been sent out that the state government has decided to revise the power tariff for consumers. There is no such proposal before the government. “It is customary to revise the power tariff only once a year. Therefore, there is no need for the public to worry about the rumors of a rate hike,” he said.
“There are 13 thermal power plants in the state. They require coal and petroleum products for their functioning. Based on the market price fluctuations, it is a continuous process to carry out fuel cost adjustment revision every three months in all power supply companies,” Sunil Kumar said.
“Revision of fuel cost adjustment is the discretionary power of KERC and depending on the price of fuel, this adjustment cost may increase and decrease. Therefore, there is no need to link this process with the annual rate revision,” Kumar added.
