“No need to panic”: DK DC Rajendra KV on Nipah virus

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra on Tuesday September 14, urged the public not to panic about the Nipah virus in the district.
Speaking to the reporters, Rajendra said, ” A Karwar-based microbiologist, who works in Goa, self-reported suspicion of being infected with the virus. He had fever and headache after he got drenched in rain and googled the symptoms. Fearing Nipah, he got himself admitted at Manipal and then later he was shifted to Wenlock. He had no symptoms or direct contact. His sample was sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune on Monday, September 13. The result is awaited.”
Talking about Covid-19 cases in DK, he said, ” Dakshina Kannada has a 1.57 positivity rate. There are 1,604 active cases. Case fatality rate is 1.13.”
” Second PU classes were started on September 1. On September 17, classes will be held in the morning for 9th and 10th standards and afternoon classes for 8th standard. We will soon take a decision regarding degree classes for the 5th and 6th semesters. Practical classes have started now,” he said.
He further said, “On September 17, a mega vaccination mela will be held in the district. The target is 1.5 lakh vaccines. For this purpose, 15,000 vaccines are distributed for Moodbidri, 20,000 for Ullal, Bantwal, Beltangady and Puttur, and 10,000 each for Sullia and Mulki.”
“Also, those coming from Kerala and staying in Mangaluru must mandatorily quarantine themselves for 7 days. RT-PCR report which is not less than 72 hours old is also compulsory for those who come to Mangaluru,” he added.
