Bengaluru: Karnataka Energy Minister V Sunil Kumar on Thursday, October 14 allayed the rumors about power shortage in the state.
As per the data, coal supply in the state is higher than the demand, and people need not worry about any power cuts, he said.
Further, he said that power generation has not been hampered by a lack of coal supply. Coal India and northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) supply 12-13 rakes of coal every day to the state. This is sufficient for coal-based generating plants, he added.
Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL) operates 3 thermal power plants at Raichur, Ballari, and Yaramaras with a generating capacity of 1720MW, 1700MW and 1600MW respectively.
In total, the 13 units at these 3 power plants can generate up to 5020MW electrical energy. Out of these 8 are in operation now. Rest 5 are idle due to lower demand, Sunil Kumar said.
The energy minister said the government is closely monitoring the situation so that there is no power shortage in the state.
