Mangaluru: Though noise pollution is known to have adverse effects on human health, in our daily course of life we are exposed to unwanted and at times harsh sound, especially the shrill honking of vehicles.

In the past, several initiatives have been undertaken by student and citizen groups to create awareness among bus drivers, auto-rickshaw drivers and public against harsh use of horns the same have not yielded desired results.

On Tuesday, August 20 Pandeshwar Traffic Police initiated a drive against use of shrill horns in violation of traffic norms. More than 70 buses, including Government vehicles, were checked and horns were seized from nearly 15 buses and fines were levied on errants.

In a tweet, city police commissioner said: “Special drive against shrill horns.. now Mangaluru may get a lot quieter..”
