Non-FASTag vehicles to incur double-toll charges

Udupi: The mandatory implementation of FASTag, which was supposed to be effective from Wednesday at all toll gates across the country was not enforced in the tollgates located in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts.
The toll gate personnel cited that they had not received any directions from the NHAI and hence vehicles were being allowed to ply as per the current practice.
As per government order, two gates each have to be reserved for locals, emergency entry and cash transactions following enforcement of FASTag at toll gates. All other lanes are to be used for FASTag.
While commuters will have the option to pay toll charges with cash, vehicles without FASTags will have to incur double charges from today onward.
Hejamady toll gate personnel informed that from Thursday onwards one lane will be earmarked for non-FASTag vehicles.
