Bengaluru: Water Resources Minister D K Shivakumar on Monday, February 25 said that JD(S) candidate will be contesting from Mandya seat and not Congress.
Addressing presspersons here Shivakumar said that so far JD(S) has won in Mandya and therefore JD(S) itself will contest from the constituency in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
When questioned about Sumalatha interests in contesting from Mandya seat, he said that there will be many opportunities for Sumalatha in politics and the party leaders will explain the situation to her.
“All these days, the Congress party was not indulging in politics. Now onwards it will” said Shivakumar when asked about the latest developments in Congress party.
The local Congress workers and leaders of Mandya who have been trying to impress upon the state leaders to field Sumalatha Ambareesh were surprised after Shivakumar’s announcement that JDS will be contesting from Mandya, informed sources.
It may be recalled that Sumalatha herself has said that she was hoping to contest elections in Mandya on a Congress ticket, given that her husband himself was a Congress leader for several years.
