Notice to DK CBSE schools for not teaching Kannada as second language

Mangaluru: Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) M J Roopa directed Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) to inspect all schools affiliated to CBSE curriculum in the district and serve notices to those schools that were not teaching Kannada language or teaching Kannada as the third language.

Chairing a review meeting on progress of Kannada implementation at the DC office here, recently she said that all schools affiliated to CBSE curriculum in the district should mandatorily teach Kannada as a second language.

DDPI deputy director Walter D’Mello highlighted that Kendriya Vidyalaya schools were not teaching Kannada, Roopa said deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh would initiate the next step to get Kendriya Vidyalaya to implement the Kannada language as a second language.

“All government vehicles should display registration numbers in Kannada script also,” she said.

She also directed officials to implement Kannada in all government offices. The additional DC said number plates of vehicles owned by the government should be in English and Kannada languages.
