Nouveau mode of movie screenings soon in France

Paris: Worldwide the ‘Unlock’ process has begun. Most of the public places including markets, malls and sports stadiums are reopening with people trickling in many of them. However, theatres – movie and drama – have not yet received that fortune.
As a result, more movies are now been released on OTT platforms. This is haunting movie theatre owners, who fear that it will degrade the appeal of theatre-going.
To quell the tide, a new form of cinematic event is to be organised in France called “Cinéma sur l’Eau” (Cinema on the Water).
Every year the city’s municipal authority organises the Paris Plages (Paris Beaches) between July and August where roadways along the Seine River flowing through the city are turned into artificial beaches complete with sand and palm grooves.
This year the city mayor’s office along with two companies will be organising the ‘floating theatre’ where cineaste will be watching movies seated in boats. The event will also include a seating deck on land too.
Tickets for the movie shows will be free but through a raffle. Parisians will have to register online and the raffle winners will be allowed for the screenings from July 15.
French movie theatres were allowed to reopen last month with 50 per cent capacity.
