Bagalkot: The last rites of Jamkhandi MLA Siddu Nyamgouda were performed with full State honours in his native town of Jamkhandi on Tuesday. His body was placed at Polo Grounds for people to pay their last respects. Later, it was taken in a procession to Jamkhandi sugar factory premises for burial. Nyamgouda was the Chairman of that factory.
People arrived by the thousands to mourn his death and participated in the procession. Many farmers also paid their respects to the leader. Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, KPCC President G. Parameshwara, elected representatives of Bagalkot district and many seers came to pay tribute to the politician.
Siddaramaiah remembered Nyamgouda as ‘Barrage Sidddu’, a name he earned for taking up the task of constructing a barrage at Chikkapadasalagi village for the farmers, using public money and support. Parameshwara said that the Congress has lost a true public leader.
On Tuesday, Karnataka Pradesh Campaign Committee Chairman D.K. Shivakumar wrote a letter to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy requesting that the Chikkapadasalagu barrage be named after Nyamgouda. He wrote that naming the barrage after him and erecting a statue of the leader would be a suitable honour for the leader.
