Ocean of devotees celebrate Sirsi Marikamba fest

Sirsi: Thousands of devotees from across the state have come together on Wednesday to celebrate the famous Sirsi Marikamba temple festival which is held once in two years.
The Marikamba Jathre attracts devotees from all over Karnataka. Sri Marikamba temple of Sirsi is a place of pilgrimage which celebrates the festival once in two years. Devotees come to get a glimpse of the goddess decked in all her grandeur. The chariot ride that the divinity takes during the Jathre is the major event of the festival.
Lambani women stand in groups and sing folk songs (sobane pada) which are sung at marriages in this locality as the Shobhayatre commences. The chariot festivities begin at the temple and conclude at the Bidakibail.
