A 13-year-old boy fell to death while attending online classes atop a hill in Padmapur village of Rayagada district. The teenager has been identified as 13-year-old Andriya Jagaranga of Kandha Pandraguda village.
The teen was searching for better mobile network connectivity to attend online classes when he slipped on a hillock and suffered grievous injuries.
Andriya Jagaranga was a class 7 student at a missionary school in Cuttack, returned home to Pandraguda village as the schools closed due to the pandemic. He used to climb small hillocks nearby to attend the online class due to internet issues in the village being poor.
With the rains pouring over for the last couple of days, the rocks on the hillock were sodden and slippery.
Losing his balance, Andriya fell down on a slippery stone, sustaining injuries to his leg and head.
Locals found Andriya lying unconscious in a pool of blood and immediately informed the police. A team of fire personnel reached the spot and the boy was rushed to the hospital.
Even after the initial treatment, his condition kept deteriorating and doctors referred him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. The boy succumbed to his injuries before reaching MKCG Medical.
The Union Telecom and IT Minister Aswini Vaishnaw is scheduled to visit Rayagada on Friday, August 19.
Koraput Lok Sabha MP Saptagiri Ulaka urged Aswini Vaishnaw to hold a review meeting with concerned authorities during his visit and take necessary steps in strengthening mobile connectivity and data network in the region.
