“Of course I was afraid, I’m strong now:” Kundapura COVID-19 victor

Half the cure happens when one is not called a patient, there is nothing more reassuring than that.

Kundapura: It was only a week after I was transferred here from Shirva. I had known that most of the COVID-19 cases of the district are in the Kundapur taluk. I mustered courage and joined duty here on June 18.

I was on highway patrol for 8 days.

On July 8, I had a cold. Already there was a positive case at the Station, hence senior officials advised me to get tested.

On July 6, my samples were collected and I was home quarantined.

The test reports came on July 13. I had tested positive. Lost a little courage then.

When three days passed and the ambulance to take me to the hospital did not arrive, I felt afraid. But being in the police did not let it distract me.

On July 17, I was finally admitted to the COVID Care Centre at Manipal.

Many there were in a cloud of fear. Seeing them I did have a moment of tears. But I held on, partially because I was asymptomatic.

Physicians and nurses came and inquired regularly. Timely meals, snacks, tea, fruit, vitamin pills, hot water baths were available. All of this was encouraging.

I have also gave courage to others there. A policeman’s words gave them confidence.

SP, ASP, SI were regularly making calls and inquiring about my health. I became more strengthened.

Five days later I was released. After returning home I started having a herbal decoction in hot water and cleansed my throat.

Fearing of a cold, flu can worsen one’s fight against the coronavirus. Such fear is unnecessary. When I got infected, I received assurances from senior officials of the department and from home. Now I’m strong enough to reassure everyone.
