Kuandapura: “The harassing officials of revenue, excise and municipality departments are causing trouble to the functioning of business and family,” accused Sahana S. Shetty, a businessman from Ankadakatte Koteshwara. He was speaking at a press conference here.
“On April 9th, former MLA, social workers and religious leader Appanna Hegde was invited for the inauguration celebration of Udaya Jewellers in Kundapura. But assistant commissioner, on the pretext on Model Code of Conduct, applied a paper on Appanna’s photograph on the printed banner and also did not allow him to address the gathering. When my husband Surendra Shetty objected this, he is being subjected to the AC’s revenge. That very night, he raided my hotel and with the help of the excise department, cancelled the hotel’s license on temporary basis. Presently, the state high court has repealed the cancellation,” she said.
Even though we had the license…
“The AC has sent notice through Kundapura tashildar and other officers to Sahana Convention Hall, Sahana Orchard Hotel, which has been functioning since two years under loans amounting to crores of rupees. Though a written permission was sought to produce the documents, it was not given. My husband is a partner of Udaya Jewellrys and the officers are meting mental harassment, even though there exists a permit,” she accused.
“On April 9th, when the AC conducted the raid on the hotel. My husband was at home since he was ill.
When the AC came to know about this, he caused abuse using foul language and attempted to arrest my sick husband by stating the reason that the entry of customers was not stopped. He submitted a complaint to Sullia. After this, around 1.2 lakh rupees was spent for my husband’s treatment.”
“Though all the documents are available, bail has been denied through the court. An application has been put forth before the state’s high court. Due to the harassment of the officers, I have reached to the extent of committing suicide. I’ll send a complaint to the state election officer, women’s commission and lokayukta regarding this injustice,” she claimed.
