Manipal: The government has decided to offer a one-time regularization scheme for those who have built houses or commercial buildings without obtaining permission from local bodies or authorities. Minister for Urban Development Rahim Khan announced that a government order in this regard would be issued within the next 15 days.

Speaking to the media after a progress review meeting at the Udupi Deputy Commissioner’s office complex, Minister Rahim Khan stated that many people have constructed houses or buildings in layouts or plots without obtaining A-Khata or B-Khata from local bodies. To provide them with proper documentation and necessary infrastructure, the government has decided to offer a one-time regularization of these constructions. This system, which is already in place in the BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike), will now be extended to all local bodies in the state.

Minister Khan emphasized that the authorities would be instructed to implement this system properly. He also mentioned that this move would help resolve the 9/11 property rights issue in the coastal region.

Tax Collection Through Self-Help Groups

To address the challenge of tax collection in rural areas, Minister Khan revealed that self-help groups would be tasked with collecting taxes. These groups will receive a fixed commission from the collected amount, thereby strengthening them and ensuring efficient tax collection for local bodies.
