Online, distance learning to be higly in demand in future says DyCM

Mysuru: Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Higher Education Dr CN Ashwath Narayan said that Karnataka is already leading educationally in the country and has now made radical changes in distance education as all such courses will now be provided through the Karnataka State Open University here.

Speaking virtually from Bengaluru on the launch of physical classes of the university he said that the demand for online and distance education system will increase in the coming days. It will be the government’s duty to educate students as per their terms and for bringing change.

“In this backdrop, the open university will be further strengthened and will be upgraded technically,” he added.

“Already a law has been enacted that only the open university should provide distance education in the State. The university will be set on the direction it was established for and the government would cooperate for this purpose in all manner,” he said.

“Many changes have occurred in the traditional education systems since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Learning systems that allow a student to learn from anywhere using technology is becoming popular. Students will be able to learn either through online or offline classes. However, student attendance will be compulsory,” Narayan said.

Vice-Chancellor of the university Dr Vidyashankar, Registrar Dr Lingaraja Gandhi, member of the board of management Dr Ashok Kamble were present in the virtual meet.
