Coimbatore: Two loco pilots of a heritage train were injured when the boiler of its engine suddenly burst due to misfire, near Hillgrove railway station in Nilgiris district on Saturday.

The Nilgiris Mountain Railway train with six coaches and nearly 120 passengers, which left Mettupalayam for Udhagamandalam around 7 am, suddenly came to a halt on a bridge at Hillgrove, after it developed a snag in the engine, following a misfire.

As one of the loco pilots tried to increase the pressure, hot water from the radiator splashed on them. Bhoopathi and Satheesh sustained burn injuries, Railway sources said.

Another engine and two coaches have been requisitioned from Coonoor to take the stranded passengers and to shift the injured loco pilots to a hospital.
