Shivamogga: Owing to heavy downpours in the catchment territories of the Tunga Reservoir in the past two days, the water level in the reservior increased and a couple of the peak gates were opened from Saturday night.
Superintendent Engineer Phaniraju said that the Tunga reservoir has a capacity limit of 3.24 TMC. In the whole state, the Tunga reservoir is typically the first to attain its maximum water level. As there is great rainfall in the catchment zones of the reservoir, it gets 9000 cu secs water inflow and outpouring. Five gates of the reservoir have just been opened. Fifteen doors will be partially opened for water surge.
The water level in the Bhadra reservoir has not yet reached the dead storage level, which is around 116 feet, as it has the ability to store 76 TMC of water, being the biggest in the state.
The Bhadra reservoir is two times bigger than the KRS Dam.
Officers have educated that the reservoir can store water up to 183 feet. As the there has been low rainfall in the catchment territory, the water level has ascended by just two inches.
