Bengaluru: Padmini Ponappa, Chairperson of Karnataka Forest Development Corporation limited (KFDCL) and Congress party leader has chosen to leave the Congress party that she has been serving for 33 years to join the JD(S).

The reason for the decision is said to be the denial of ticket by the Congress party. Padmini, who went rebel against Congress, submitted nomination to contest as an independent candidate from Virajpete Constituency. She eventually withdrew her nomination after she was pacified by senior congress leaders of the district.

Padmini has now decided to join hands with JD(S) and enrolled herself after the constituency candidate Sanketh Poovaiah asked for her support. JD(S) president and former Prime Minister HD Devegowda welcomed Padmini to the party and has honoured her as the Vice President of the party.
