Padubidri: A private bus traveling from Kollur to Mangaluru collided with the rear of a container lorry ‘negligently’ parked on the highway, resulting in injuries to approximately 20 passengers.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening amid heavy rain. One passenger sustained a bone fracture, and all the injured were admitted to a private hospital in Mukka for treatment.
This accident happened at a dangerous curve on National Highway 66 near Hejmady, which is notoriously risky during the monsoon season.
The injured have been identified as Bhavani, Ameena, Fathima, Siya, Sachin, Sanath Kumar, Sachin A., Paul, Mathum, Anand Prabhu, Naseem Sheikh, Ashok, Nandan, bus driver Vikram, Siddu, Amit, Shakuntala, Pradeep, Sumati, and Eshwaramurthy.
The bus was traveling on the left side of the Udupi-Mangalore dual carriageway when it collided with the container lorry on the right side. Other vehicles were also present on the highway at the time of the accident. The incident occurred because the container lorry driver parked without any prior warning.
The bus was unable to stop in time due to the wet conditions and failed to control its speed, leading to the collision with the rear of the container lorry.
Padubidri Police Station PSI Prasanna and his team visited the scene.
A case has been registered against the container lorry driver at the Padubidri police station.
