Padubidri: In a bizarre incident, a 17-year-old boy was seriously injured after being hit by a lorry on National Highway 66 in Padubidri Junction on December 28. The incident occurred following an argument with his mother over taking away his mobile phone.

The mother, Kushala, and her son, Kaushik, from Borivali, Mumbai, had come to Padubidri on Saturday. While near the Navrang Restaurant in Padubidri’s main market area, an argument broke out between the mother and son regarding the mobile phone. Kaushik, frustrated over his mother not allowing him to keep the phone, allegedly threatened to take his life and ran towards the highway.

As Kaushik stood in the middle of the road, a lorry travelling from Mangaluru towards Udupi struck him. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in critical condition.

The lorry driver is said to have been driving at high speed and with a lack of caution, leading to the accident. A case has been registered at the Padubidri Police Station against the driver for reckless driving.

Kaushik is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.
