New Delhi: Pakistani singer and actress Meesha Shafi has been sentenced to three years in jail on charges of falsely accusing actor and singer Ali Zafar of sexual misconduct.
Shafi has accused Zafar of sexual harassment in 2018 when the worldwide Me Too campaign was at its height.
She had stated that Zafar has assaulted her in a studio while recording for a song.
Zafar denied the accusation and filed a defamation suit against Shafi.
The Pakistani court, which was hearing the case, said Shafi’s allegations were baseless and sentenced her to three years in prison for lying and attempting to defame a person’s honour.
Shafi questioned the court’s verdict by saying ‘which woman will get justice in such cases in this society.’
Talking about his legal victory Ali said, “My intention was to expose the allegations against me as lies legally. I did not make any allegations or statements against her, instead, I went to court. Truth has finally won.”
Meesha Shafi had starred in the Bollywood movie ‘Bhag Milkha Bhag’ starring Farhan Akhtar in the lead.
