Pakshikere murder-suicide: Did financial troubles lead to brutal end of a family?

In a devastating incident, Karthik Bhat, a resident of Pakshikere allegedly killed his pregnant wife Priyanka (28) and son Hriday (4) before taking his own life by jumping in front of a train in Bellairu village.

This incident has led to speculation that financial troubles and a desire for a luxurious lifestyle may have driven Karthik Bhat to take the lives of his wife and son before ending his own. The tragedy, which surfaced on Saturday afternoon, has raised questions about the circumstances leading to the family’s demise.

Incident Details

Karthik, who had been unemployed for some time, was reportedly struggling with mounting financial issues. Despite these difficulties, he continued to seek a high standard of living, which, sources say, led him to borrow money from friends. Living with his elderly parents in a relative’s flat in Pakshikere, Karthik and his family occupied a separate room and led an isolated life, rarely interacting with his parents, who ran a small canteen.

Family sources indicate that Karthik spent most of his time at home but aspired to a lavish lifestyle. He even installed an air conditioner in his room, with his father covering the family’s electricity expenses.

The Tragic Discovery

The sequence of events became clear after Karthik’s body was found on railway tracks, suggesting suicide by train. Investigations at the family’s home revealed evidence of violence, with broken window glass used to inflict injuries on his wife and son. Police are investigating whether an argument between the couple or threats from lenders may have contributed to Karthik’s actions. Only instructions about funeral arrangements were found in his diary.

The family’s post-mortem was conducted on Sunday at Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore. The funeral took place the same day in Kerekad, in line with Karthik’s written request that his wife’s family handle the last rites.

The police are continuing to investigate all aspects of the case, including potential financial pressures, relationship issues, and external influences.
