Mangaluru: The Panambur beach will be hosting a three-day national-level surfing festival from May 27.

The event, National Surfing Festival 2022, is being organized jointly by the state tourism department, Surfing Federation of India, and Mantra surfing, informed DK Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V.

The tourism department has provided Rs 15 lakhs for the event, where more than 75 top surfers from India are expected to participate in surfing and stand-up paddling categories.

Preparation work for the contests is in full swing, the DC said and added that the beach is being beautified.

Beaches on the 40 km stretch of coast of the district are suitable for surfing that can boost eco-tourism. There are plans to develop a prefabricated surfing jungle lodge at Sasihitlu and open a surf school, he added.
