Bantwal: It is gathered that a woman jumped off the bridge at Panemagaluru into the Netravati river on Saturday.

A motorist saw a woman jump off the Netravati bridge here at about 10 AM today and informed the police about the same, sources said.

The local divers and fishermen immediately pressed into action and tried to rescue the woman. However, in the high flow muddy waters of the river, the woman could not be traced and is feared to be drowned, locals said.

At the time of publishing the news, the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained. As a large crowd had gathered to view the search and rescue operations, traffic on the highway was disrupted for some time after the incident.
