Parashuram Waghmare confesses of killing Gauri Lankesh

Bengaluru: Special Investigation Team (SIT) recorded confession testing Gauri Lankesh murder case, where accused Parashuram Waghmare confessed that he was the person who shot Gauri Lankesh. He said that he had given his weapon to somebody after this episode, however does not recall to whom. 

Waghmare said that he was not able tolerate Gauri’s propensity for using bad language against Hindutva and Hindu gods. “Enraged by this, I killed her by shooting her. The pistol which i used doesn’t belong to me now. I had given it away it to somebody. But i do not remember to whom i handed over the pistol,” he said. 

With this, the SIT  appears to have made progress in the case. Presently the group wants to proceed with its precise examination and discover who were the people behind this devious crime. 

It is accumulated that the accused, amid beginning times of cross examination, remained non-cooperative and argued frequently. But, when the official of the team proceeded with questioning, and furthermore presented proofs of their finding, the accused admitted to his crime at night. The SIT said that examination has not yet been completed and they are yet to discover who was the biker involved with the crime that day and the individuals who worked in the background. Sources said that preliminary information proposes that pro Hindu association was behind this gunning down, there is absence of enough evidence. 

The group needs to acquire the pistol utilized for the murder and the bike utilized for the movement to reinforce its case. In any case, both are yet to be found. The accused has made the issues complicated by claiming that the weapon was given to another person after utilizing it for the murder. The bike likewise couldn’t be recognized. The rider of the engine bicycle who had presented to Parashuram that day likewise has not been identified. 

It is learnt that amid his examination, Waghmare said that the hit list contained names of critics like Girish Karnad, K S Bhagwan and different rationalists and scholars including  Gauri Lankesh. In spite of the fact that Karnad was to be killed before Gauri according to the plan, that arrangement was racked for a few reasons, he told the officers. 

The SIT said that they discovered amid investigation that names of C S Dwarakanath, former minister, B T Lalita Nayak, Veerabhadra Chennamalla Swamiji of Nidumamidi Math and K S Bhagwan were in the list of people focused to be killed.
