Haveri: Parents of a youth who died by suicide, filed a police complaint alleging that his girlfriend and her family abetted his death.

The deceased is Nagaraj Uppar, 24, from Chikkabudihal village in Hirekeruru taluk. He ended his life by consuming pesticides.

Following his death, police filed a report of unnatural death.

Citing her son’s chats on WhatsApp, Renukavva Uppar claimed that he had entered into a suicide pact with his girlfriend after her family found out about their relationship and opposed it.

Renukavva claimed that Nagaraj and his 20-year-old girlfriend, also a resident of Chikkabudihal village, planned to die by suicide in their homes.

“Nagaraj went ahead with the plan, but Pushpanjali did not. This amounts to murder by the girlfriend and her parents. We need justice,” they said.
