Sirsi: Protest was held here today by Hindu activists demanding the arrest of culprits responsible for the death of activist Paresh Mesta.

The protestors turned violent and stones were being pelted, a garment shop was being set ablaze, a bike was gutted.

Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegade is holding the state government responsible for the tension prevailing in the Uttara Kannada district.

“The people are finding it difficult to come to terms with Mesta’s murder case and the stand of the government. Social organisations are not receiving security. There is fear among people,” he said.

MLA Vishweshwara Hegde Kageri who participated in the protest march was arrested by the police along with Hindu activist leaders.

The police restored peace through lathi charge, tear gas shells and firing in the air.
