Udupi: In a traditional ceremony held at the Udupi Sri Krishna Temple on Tuesday, Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji of Krishnapura Math ascended the Paryaya Peeta.

The biennial ascension or ‘Paryaya’ grants the seer of the Ashta Mathas the right to manage the daily rituals of Sri Krishna Temple and Matha for two years time.

Early in the morning on Tuesday, Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji had a holy dip at the Danda Tirtha lake as per traditional rituals. Thereafter, he offered puja to the deity of his matha.

Swamiji then undertook the traditional Paryaya procession along with other seers of Udupi to reach Sri Krishna Matha, where he was welcomed by the outgoing Adamaru Math seer Sri Eeshapriya Teertha Swamiji.

The Swamiji had the darshan of Lord Krishna through the Kanakana Kindi. Sri Eeshapriya Teertha Swamiji handed over the ‘Akshaya Patre,’ and ‘Sattuga,’ (vessel given by Sri Madhvacharya to his disciples) to Sri Vidyasagara Teertha Swamiji for his use during the two years of his ascendancy.

Sri Vidyasagara Theertha Swamiji also offered prayers at the Chandramoulishwara, Anantheshwara temple as per tradition.
