Mysuru: Sri Vishwaprasannatheertha Swamiji of Udupi’s Pejavara Matha vehemently condemned the controversial statement by Tamil Nadu Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, calling for the “eradication” of Sanatana Dharma.
Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is the son of TN Chief Minister Stalin, made the controversial statement at the ‘Sanatana Abolition Conference’. “Sanatan Dharma is a principle that divides people in the name of caste and religion. Uprooting Sanatan Dharma is upholding humanity and human equality,” Udhayanidhi Stalin wrote in a message on X on Saturday night reiterating his statement.
Repeating his point made in his speech, Udhayanidhi Stalin wrote, “Let me reiterate the crucial aspect of my speech: I believe, like the spread of diseases like COVID-19, Dengue, and Malaria by mosquitoes, that Sanatan Dharma is responsible for many social evils.”
Sri Vishwaprasannatheertha Swamiji, who is on a Chaturmasya Vrat in Mysuru, expressed his deep displeasure against the statement by Udayanidhi, who is in a responsible position as minister of a state. “It is wrong to sow such poisonous seeds in the society,” the seer said.
‘Sanatana’ means something which is eternal. ‘Dharma’ represents the tenets for living happily. The doctrine of Sanathana Dharma professes that the happiness of neighbors is the cause of joy in oneself, not at someone else’s misfortune, the seer said, and added that the belief that such a religion be eradicated is completely false. “We vehemently condemn such mindset,” he added.
