People are not ready to become your slaves: Kharge tells Modi

Kalaburagi: Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha M. Mallikarjun Kharge told the media at his party office that Prime Minister Narendra Modi might have a desire to be the master of the entire nation, but the people of Karnataka were not willing to become his slaves. This statement comes as a response to Mr. Modi’s repeated statements about making India Congress-free. He reminded the Prime Minister of the blow he received from Gujarat in the recent Assembly elections, lest he forget it.

In response to Mr. Modi’s attack on Jawaharlal Nehru in recent public meetings in Karnataka, Mr. Kharge said that it was because Nehru upheld the doctrines of secularism and democracy enshrined in the Constitution that today Modi, a “poor mother’s son” could hold the post of Prime Minister. He accused Mr. Modi and the BJP of attempting to demolish the fundamental pillar of a democracy- adult franchise.

Kharge cited two opposing ideologies- Ambedkar’s Constitution which stands for equal and democratic social order and Golwalkar’s Bunch of Thoughts which stands for hierarchical and exploitative order- and asked Mr. Modi what he stood for. He said that the BJP should first make a decision about whose thoughts they follow because when Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde said that the BJP came to power for changing Ambedkar’s Constitution, neither the Prime Minister nor the BJP took any visible action.

He also countered the attacks on his party saying that the Congress always welcomed constructive criticism and further pointed out that “baseless and biased personal attacks” on Congress leaders were not indicative of the statesmanship that is expected from the Prime Minister. He asked Mr.Modi to first correct the States that were ruled by his party instead of taking digs at the States which have a Congress Government at the forefront.
