PETA Alleges Violence Against Animals During Kambala Event in Moodbidri

Moodbidri: People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has said in statement that the rights of animals violated during Koti Chennaya Jodukere Kambala organised at Moodbidri in Dakshina Kannada on Saturday. PETA is expected to produce sufficient proofs before Supreme Court during the next hearing on Kambala issue. PETA has claimed that it has video tapes, photos and others taken secretly during the Kambala event held in Moodbidri on November 11.

PETA reportedly alleged that there were incidents of violence against the buffalos used for the race and has sufficient proofs to prove its allegations.  Kambala was organised in Moodbidri on Saturday after year long wait with a huge participation of people from around the Dakshina Kannada and its neighboring districts.  As many as 10, 000 people who arrived to witness Kambala were given food including Karavali traditional dishes.

A total of 137 pairs of buffalos took part in the rustic event and competitions were held in six different categories. The event was began in the evening hours of Saturday and concluded during early hours of November 12 with a participation of more than 10, 000 people.
