PG engineering courses under VTU to be closed

Mysuru: Nearly 25 percent of the Post Graduate engineering courses affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University will be closed from this academic year. Owing to decreased demand and lack of sufficient admissions, 25 percent of the engineering courses, including those introduced only a couple of years ago, will be cancelled from this year.
This decision comes after almost 90 engineering colleges, that offered PG courses, requested the cancellation of PG courses which were not in demand. Registrar of VTU, H.N. Jaganatha Reddy said that since industries are not opting for PG students, most students prefer to go for two years of practical experience in industries over two years of a PG course.
Though the colleges have invested a lot of infrastructure for the courses, there is no point in running them when the courses do not meet the industrial requirements. Reddy also informed that the VTU will conduct thorough research and will introduce new PG courses from the academic year 2019-20, based on the market needs.
