Piaggio, the Italian two-wheeler manufacturer plans to extend its product portfolio in India with a new sub-200cc scooter, which is currently under development. Piaggio is likely to launch the new scooter over the next 18 months under the Aprilia brand. Piaggio, in co-operation with its R&D centre in Italy, will develop the scooter exclusively for the Indian market to tackle the extreme road conditions.

The upcoming new Piaggio is expected to make its debut at the 2020 Auto Expo in a concept form. It will be the highest displacement range scooter in India. The powerful motor of the scooter will definitely feature a fuel-injected delivery system to meet the new standard emission norms.

Like the Vespa and Aprilia scooters, the new Piaggio scooter will also come packed with a lot of goodies including a full-LED headlight, a digital display, larger under-seat storage and so on. The scooter will provide better riding dynamics, power, performance and handling.

Piaggio has clearly stated that it won’t go below the 125cc segment and is mainly targetting only at the 150-200cc segment. The company also plans to grow in the 200-300cc segment in the coming 3-5 years after seeing the massive boom in this sector.
