Plan to form Industrial Township Authority: Khader

Mangaluru: The state Urban Development Department is planning to amend the Karnataka Municipal Corporation Act of 1976 and to form an Industrial Township Authority to take care of the problems faced by the industries, informed minister for urban development U T Khader on Monday June 10th.
Mr Khader explained that the formation of Industrial Township Authority is with the intention to help industries rectify problems and to reduce complex procedures of tax collection. Earlier, taxes from industries were collected by the local bodies, but with formation of Township Authority, the taxes will be collected by the authority which will also manage the issues regarding the industries. Of the total collected tax, 30% will go to the local bodies while the remaining 70% will be for the authority.
The Industrial Township Authority will have eight members including five from different industries, one member each from the Industry and Commerce Department, the Urban Development Department and the local bodies informed Mr Khader and added that the amendment decision will be put forth during the monsoon session in order to receive approval.
