#PlasticFreeKudla: MCC seizes 50kg plastic during inspection drive

Mangaluru: Officials of Mangaluru City Corporation on Tuesday, September 3 confiscated 50kg of plastic from various shops during an inspection drive.
A ban on single-use plastic has been imposed in the state since September 1 and to ensure stricter implementation, authorities have formed four teams to conduct inspection drive at various places. Each team will be conducting three raids a week and action would be initiated against violators, including cancellation of trade license, it was informed.
Today’s raids were carried out at Kadri, Lalbagh, Bunder and Suratkal in the city.
A total of Rs 12,000 was collected in form of fines. The penalty ranges from Rs 1,500 to Rs 5,000.
Meanwhile, Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath has been actively campaigning for a plastic-free Kudla on social media.
