PM praises M’luru Dr Padmanabh Kamath’s CAD initiative, thanks him for giving ‘Jan Aushadi – Jan Upyogi’ slogan

Mangaluru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday appreciated Dr Padmanabh Kamath, an eminent cardiologist from Mangaluru for his Cardiology at Doorsteps (CAD) initiative during the ‘Jan Aushadhi Week’ virtual address.
Kamath, who is head of the Cardiology Department at Kasturba Medical College had started the CAD initiative, a WhatsApp group to install ECG machines in PHCs and private clinics in rural areas to help identify heart-related problems and provide assistance over WhatsApp.
The ‘Janaushadhi Week’ is being celebrated across the nation from March 1 to March 7, with the theme of ”Jan Aushadhi — Seva Bhi, Rozgar Bhi” to create awareness about the scheme and Dr Kamath was among the several people who interacted with the Prime Minister on the occasion.

Interacting with PM Modi, Dr Kamath said how Jan Aushadhi centers are Jan Upyogi for the CAD initiative by helping to reach out to people from far-flung rural areas with little access to medical facilities.
In the crusade against coronary artery disease, Dr Kamath has installed ECG machines at PHCs and Jan Aushadhi centers and offers advice based on the diagnosis. The initiative has saved several lives, he said.
Talking about this year’s theme and how unknowingly he is connected to it, Dr Kamath recalled how he had assisted a man set up a Jan Aushadhi center by providing financial assistance.
Later, PM Modi praised the doctor for his life-saving efforts.
Thanking Dr Kamath for giving him the Jan Aushadhi Jan Upyogi slogan, Modi hoped others too would take inspiration from him and come up with ideas for people’s benefit.
Dr Padmanabh Kamath also took to Twitter and wrote, “After years of hardwork my pet project Cardiology at Doorsteps ( CAD) and Kayakalpa has got its due recognition. I thank our beloved PM for his encouragement and also praises showered on me. Unforgettable moment of my life.#Janaushadhi #Janupayogi”

“My only advice to all those who want to dream big is never give up. When I started my project in 2018 never ever I dreamt that I will be speaking to honourable PM. Today after the program I am sure this project will take a new dimension.” he added.
